Brabus Widestar Based On The Mercedes ML 63
Mercedes Benz– manufacturer of ML series and producer of quality ML parts like Mercedes ML320 parts– is one of the favorites of the tuning giant Brabus. Just recently the company engaged in a venture that involves the Mercedes ML 63. This special project has made its debut at the 2007 Geneva Motor Show.
The Brabus Widestar does not only present a new and exciting wide track version of the SUV but also presented the new Monoblock E 23-inch forged wheels and Brabus B63 S performance tuning for the ML 63 with 550 hp/404.8 kW.
The Widestar concept which is available for all current M-Class models combines dynamic looks and maximum functionality. The graceful flowing lines of the fender flares front and back increases the vehicle’s width by approximately 4 centimeters. The extra centimeters enhance the car’s looks while the wide track improves handling. The multi piece Brabus Monoblock E wheels with size 11 Jx23 were custom fitted for the wide track version of the M-Class. Their forge wheel center ensures an optimal combination of light weight design and maximum strength. The new light alloy wheels are mounted with high performance tires that measure 315/25 R 23.
Brabus has also equipped its Windestar Concept with a control module for the standard Airmatic air suspension that lowers the vehicle’s height by approximately 30 millimeters which further enhance its sporty road handling characteristics.
The Brabus Widestar body conversion kit is consists of add-on parts for the doors, and rocker panels that results to a more homogenous transition between the fender flares. There are also a complete front and rear fascias replacements for the production counterparts’ front and back. The front spoiler bumper with its three striking air inlets and four integrated auxiliary headlights lends the M-Class more power while minimizing lift on the front axle.
In addition, the combination of the rear spoiler, the rear fascia with integrated diffuser, and four chrome tailpipes of the Brabus stainless-steel sport exhaust system create a remarkable aerodynamic balance. And this very same aerodynamic property of the Brabus Widestar makes it the perfect platform for a tuned version of the ML 63.
The tuned ML 63 was developed by the Brabus motor engineers in the form of a B63 S performance kit. The production V8 engine produces 510 hp/375 kW and fitted with sport air filters together with high-performance metal catalysts and newly programmed engine electronics with custom mapping for ignition and injection. The combination of all these components gives off an increase in power output by 40 hp/31 kW to 550 hp/404.8 kW. The peak torque also increases from 630 Nm to 650 Nm.
Other benefits derived from the Widestar concept includes the ability to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in a matter of 4.9 seconds. Similarly the engine tuning as well as the installation of the Brabus V/max unit increases top speed from 250 km/h to 275 km/h.
Safety features were made even better by the Brabus Widestar concept like for instance using high-performance brake system which features 12-piston aluminum fixed calipers with vented and cross-drilled 380 x 36 millimeter discs on the front axle. Plus add to it the 355x28mm brake discs and 6 piston calipers in the rear enables this Widestar brake system to deliver an impressive stopping power that is comparable to purebred sports cars.
Interior designing is another specialty of the Brabus and for the M-Class they have created an exclusive interior options consisting of stainless steel door sills with illuminated Brabus logo, an ergonomically shaped sport steering wheel and a leather covered door trim pieces to upgrade the factory leather. The Brabus exclusive leather interiors were made from carefully crafted combinations of the finest Mastik leather and Alcantara.
The production front seats were also equipped with special rear consoles that reach all the way to the headrests in which a seven-inch 16:9 LCD screens with integrated DVD player. There is also an electric folding table made from precious wood added to complete the interior.
2012 Brabus 800 Coupe – 800 Hp, 1,047 Lb-Ft of Torque – Need I Say More?
Brabus does it again! They took an already powerful Mercedes Benz CL and put it on a Swedish steroid diet, locked it in a gym and took an already beautiful face and gave it a facelift! The result of all this trickery is the 2012 Brabus 800 Coupe, which is similar to the 2012 Brabus Rocket 800 which we wrote about earlier.
You will note that all of the pictures of this model were taken at the Brabus Middle East branch, which is located in Dubai, UAE. There is a good reason for that, and it’s probably because you need Middle Eastern oil money to buy one of these. To be specific, this Brabus will set you back… well there was no stated price for the car, but because it’s not disclosed we believe it’s expensive, at least a quarter-million.
And once you purchase one of these, you will know that your not-so-hard-earned oil money was well spent. I say that because you will get what is hands down the fastest and most powerful luxury coupe at the 2011 Dubai International Motor Show.
Like the previously mentioned Brabus Rocket 800, the Brabus 800 Coupe pushes close to 800 hp (788 hp) at 5,500 rpms and a whopping 1,047 ft-lb of torque (electronically limited to 811 lb-ft) which is available early on at 2,100 rpms. With all of that, you can go 0-60 mph in a mere 3.9 seconds and 0-124 mph in 10.3 seconds and reach an electronically limited top speed of 217 mph. To be sure, these extremely high speeds place high demands on the aerodynamic components of the 800 Coupe. That’s why Brabus took special care to develop these components in a wind tunnel.
The above performance figures brings me to what drives all this power. Like the Brabus Rocket 800, the Brabus 800 Coupe is powered by the signature Brabus V12 Biturbo. Brabus took the 12-cylinder engine from the Mercedes Benz CL 600 and increased displacement from 5.5 to 6.3 liters, installed a special Brabus crankshaft with longer stroke and larger forged pistons. Additionally, Brabus machined the two cylinder heads for optimized mixture flow and installed four “special” camshafts.
The turbo system was upgraded to a high-end turbocharging system designed by Brabus engine specialists. The system features two custom exhaust manifolds with integrated turbine housings and high-performance turbochargers as well as four water-to-air intercoolers. The combustion air is supplied by a carbon-fiber ram-air intake which is integrated into the hood. In addition to the above, Brabus fitted the 800 Coupe with a stainless-steel high-performance exhaust system with free-flow metal catalysts.
Power is transferred to the rear wheels through a reinforced five-speed automatic transmission and the Brabus high-performance limited-slip differential with a locking rate of 40%. Keep in mind that the Brabus 800 Coupe has all of the necessary traction control and stability systems and you have the option of turning them off, but be very careful because once you do the probability of wrapping around a tree increases significantly.
To properly handle all of this trickery, the Brabus 800 Coupe is fitted with high-performance 265/30 ZR 21 tires in front and 295/25 ZR 21 in the rear. And to keep you from getting speeding tickets, the Brabus is fitted with six-piston aluminum fixed calipers and vented and cross-drilled discs measuring 405 x 34 millimeters (16 x 1.3 inches) in the front and 380 x 34 millimeter (15.0 x 1.34 in.) discs and 4-piston fixed aluminum calipers in the rear axle. To be sure, this Brabus braking system delivers outstanding stopping power and endurance.
In addition to the 800 Coupe’s solid performance figures, the car has a very impressive exclusive sporty-elegant interior. The interior received a high-class upgrade to match the car’s diamond-white metallic paint finish. The interior is a combination of white leather and black Alcantara with contrasting seams and diamond-pattern topstitching. There are also nice carbon-fiber elements in the cockpit which add a nice sport element.
All-in, it looks like this is a solid luxury-performance automobile. I love the Brabus flamboyance and power and would recommend it to any investment banker or oil baron.
The 2012 Mercedes-Benz Brabus CLS Rocket 800 Blows Away the CLS 63 AMG!
Just when you thought the 2012 Mercedes-Benz CLS 63 AMG couldn’t get any better, Brabus slaps you in the face with its 2012 Brabus Mercedes-Benz CLS Rocket 800. Now if you don’t know what Brabus is, you probably don’t understand the power behind the brand. I remember that back in the day, Brabus set some pretty interesting records, some of those records are seen below.
In 1996, Brabus E V12 achieved world speed record for a street-legal sedan at 205.1 mph. In 2003, Brabus E V12 Biturbo made a new record for a street-legal sedan at 217.6 mph. In 2006, Brabus Rocket (modified CLS) clocked in new record for a street-legal sedan at 225.2 mph. In October 2006, Brabus made another record for a sedan at 227.2 mph.
The Brabus equation equals this: 1 take a Mercedes-Benz model of choice; 2 drop a V12 in; 3 twin turbocharge it; 4 add a body kit, some interior features and new rims and you come up with a Brabus. That’s sort of what they did with the new generation 2012 Mercedes-Benz CLS Rocket 800 and they pulled it off really well.
The styling is moderately elegant and aggressive, but naturally the 2012 Mercedes-Benz Brabus CLS Rocket 800 leans more towards the sportier end of the spectrum. Some of the more aggressive accents are the Brabus gills on each side which are located behind the front wheel fenders and the sill skirts, which gives the Brabus the appearance of a lower sleeker stance. Additionally, this model has hood scoops and a lower more aggressive bumper.
If I’m perfectly honest, I think some of the body kit accents are a little too much, but I’m sure it will grow on me. What I’m really interested about, however; is the engine. I’m sure that you already know why there’s an 800 in the name of this Brabus, but in case you don’t, that’s how much horsepower this vehicle produces. Well, it actually produces 788 horsepower, but thanks to the wonderful practice of rounding, we have a full 800 horses!
Now, all sarcasm aside, 788 horsepower is still an amazing feat, but what’s even more amazing is the amount of torque produced. Grab a hold of something, because just saying it will throw you out of your seat. The 2012 Mercedes-Benz Brabus CLS Rocket 800 produces a whopping 1,047 lb ft of peak torque and it hits you early on at 2,100 rpm. This torque will likely be uncontrollable and keep the tires spinning, so it is reduced electronically to 811 lb-ft.
The above is made possible by the Brabus 800 V12 Biturbo engine, which uses specialized high-tech motor oil from ARAL. This is the first time the Brabus engine specialists have combined this high-end engine with a seven-speed quick-shift gearbox. Gears are shifted by means of shift paddles on the steering wheel or automatically. The Brabus limited-slip differential, available with various final drive ratios, optimizes traction of the rear-wheel-drive car.
The performance figures are baffling. The 2012 Mercedes-Benz Brabus CLS Rocket 800 can reach 60 mph in 3.7 seconds, which is approximately 0.7 seconds faster than the official 2012 Mercedes-Benz CLS 63 AMG, but high end speed is where this car flexes its muscle. Specifically, this Brabus can reach 120 mph in only 9.8 seconds, which is an amazing feat anyway you spin it.
And you get all of this starting at a measly 429,000 Euros. Translated into US Dollars, that’s only $589,403 using the Euro-to-US Dollar FX rate as of September 13, 2011.
There is a lot to be said about this wonderful piece of machinery, and it really is, but I would prefer a more subtle body kit. In fact, I wish someone could combine the superb engineering of Brabus with the more subtle design. Well, there actually is a company that does it. It’s called Carlsson. They are not as popular as Brabus, nor are they as extreme and in some ways that’s good. Notice that the 2012 Mercedes Benz Carlsson CK 63 has a more subtle body kit relative to the Brabus. However, don’t let the subtleness fool you, because under the hood this car produces 649 horsepower and can easily hit 60 mph in around 4 seconds. Below you will find some pictures of the 2012 Mercedes Benz Carlsson CK 63.
